Throwing the Big Guns at the Crescent Nebula
The Crescent Nebula has long been one of my favorites, but I hadn’t imaged it in years. Well, let’s see what happens when we through over 40 hours of narrowband exposure time at it under dark skies, using better equipment and software. I’m REALLY happy with the result!
The Crescent Nebula is gas blown out by a stupendously hot Wolf-Reyet star at its heart. In the wider field image, you can also see the “Soap Bubble Nebula,” a faint planetary nebula that looks like its namesake. You’ll find the Crescent Nebula about 5,000 light-years away, inside the constellation Cygnus.
