SH2-223

This “HII region” of Hydrogen is really faint, and hasn’t received a catchier name than SH2-223. Let’s call it the Rose Nebula! It took over 23 hours of 30-minute subexposures to pull out this detail.

Originally thought to be a faint supernova remnant, astronomers later changed their mind and it’s just now classified as a region of glowing Hydrogen gas. It’s in Auriga.

Word has it there is some IFN dust in this area as well, but I only focused on the Hydrogen and stars for this image. Note to self: come back at this some other year with lots of luminance data and see what comes out.
