The California Nebula
The “California Nebula” (NGC1499) does actually kinda look like California, if you look at the whole thing. But the whole thing is too big in the sky to fit within the field of view of my telescope. So, here’s an interesting portion of it near one of its ends at least. From this angle, it looks a bit flame-like. Apart from the stars, this is narrowband data and so there is some artistic license with the colors here; to your eyes it would just be a deep red, if they were sensitive enough to actually see its color (which they aren’t.)
This was imaged simultaneously as I was imaging Jupiter in the previous post! Can’t let a clear night go to waste. No photon shall go uncollected!
